bobpracticing T’ai-Chi with Bob Noha

Class meets Monday’s, 6:00-7:00 pm

We are proud to offer T’ai-Chi as part of our weekly, ongoing schedule.  Our instructor, Bob Noha, has over forty years experience practicing Yang Style T’ai-Chi Ch’uan,  the Chinese martial art which combines meditation in movement, healthful exercise and self-defense.  The training includes practice of a 37 posture form which teaches relaxation, balance, and strength.  Bob is able to assist student with various kinds of health issues.

T’ai-chi Ch’uan (or Tai-chi) is an ancient art form China developed to promote health of mind, body and spirit through the slow motion practiced daily once in the morning and one in the evening.  Each posture has benefits to improve the health of different parts of the body.  Studies have long shown that tai-chi is safe for young and old, the healthy and those less so.

According to the April 2011 issue of the UC Berkley Wellness Letter,  “Research keeps accumulating about the health benefits of T’ai-shi, which is high on our list of recommened exercises.”

The UC Berkeley Wellness letter lists many other documented health benefits of T’ai-chi practice:

  • Balance, coordination and reductions of falls.  Tai-chi is recommended by both the American and British Geriatrics Societies to help prevent falls.
  • Arthritis relief.  Documented in a 2009 study at Tufts for relief of osteoarthritis in the knees.  Benefits took only 12 weeks to materialize.
  • Physical therapy and rehabilitation.  Assist in recovery from injuries, heart attach or surgery.
  • Relaxation and sleep.  Documented in 2008 study at UCLA among people with sleep complaints.  Benefits were reported in a 25 week study.
  • Overall fitness.  Improvements in the ability to walk, lift weights, run and do daily activities have been documented.
  • Diabetes control.  Participants with type-2 diabetes in a 2009 study at the University of Florida significantly lowered their blood sugar and managed the disease better.

New students are always welcome!  The class offers a friendly and supportive environment.  Come and join Bob and his students in good health!
